Mathematics has been a huge outlet for my creativity for years. It starts with modeling a problem and after that it is translated to mathematics to fully understand it. It is great fun to devise an algorithm that can solve a complex problem, can be implemented quickly and continuously look for improvements. My passion lies mainly in tackling optimization problems in which chance plays a major role, such as with queuing systems that we encounter in our surroundings daily. For example, how do you make a schedule for employees of an ambulance center so that the arrival time of 15 minutes is almost always guaranteed?

I therefore enjoyed studying Applied Mathematics at the TU/e, where I graduated in queuing theory. I am very happy to have found a place at CQM as I now have the opportunity to apply my mathematical knowledge in practice and I am surrounded by people from whom I can learn a lot.
