Strong analyses start with strong conversations

Every day at CQM, we help organizations solve complex business challenges. By combining Optimization, Industrial Statistics, and deep domain knowledge, we enable better decision-making. But great decisions are not driven by models alone. They start with something even more fundamental: meaningful conversations.

Not only with our clients, but also with each other.

The most impactful solutions emerge when people feel comfortable sharing their ideas, concerns, and insights—even when speaking up feels uncomfortable.

That simple but powerful idea was the central theme of this year's CQM team day:

What if we actually said it?

Practicing open conversations

Guided by Stijn van In-Venture, we explored an important question:

What happens when you don't keep feedback, appreciation, or concerns to yourself, but actually express them? And why can that feel harder than it should?

Through interactive exercises and open discussions, we experienced how honest communication strengthens trust, improves collaboration, and ultimately leads to better outcomes.

The day was filled with reflection, experimentation, and many moments of recognition.

For an organization built on analytical thinking, it was valuable to step back and reflect on another critical success factor: how we work together.

Key takeaways

Several insights stood out throughout the day:

  • Give what you would like to receive.
A sincere compliment or constructive piece of feedback can have a lasting impact. Don't keep it to yourself.
  • Be proud of speaking up.
Having the courage to say something is already progress, regardless of the outcome.
  • Mistakes are part of learning.
When you're practicing new behaviors, you may occasionally be a little too direct—or not direct enough. That's part of the process.
  • Keep sharing experiences.
Talking openly about what you've learned keeps the conversation alive and helps everyone continue growing.

Growing together

Beyond the valuable insights, the day was simply enjoyable.

Stepping away from daily projects, learning together, sharing ideas, and getting to know colleagues from a different perspective reminded us that collaboration extends beyond technical expertise.

Our annual offsite once again showed that when people feel safe to speak openly and genuinely listen to one another, collaboration becomes stronger. And stronger collaboration leads to better solutions for our clients.

Better conversations lead to better decisions

At CQM, we believe that the best solutions combine mathematical expertise with open dialogue.

By bringing together Optimization, Industrial Statistics, and deep domain knowledge, we help organizations make better decisions. But those solutions only become truly impactful when people ask the right questions, challenge assumptions, and openly share their perspectives.

Because in the end, the right conversation often leads to the best insight.
